AEW Legend Supports Finish Of John Cena’s Final WWE Match

A legendary AEW figure who spent a lot of time with John Cena in WWE agrees with how the GOAT’s last match ended.

In the final match of John Cena’s WWE career at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., the man who lived by the phrase “Never Give Up” actually gave up.

When the former World Champion Gunther had Cena trapped in a Sleeper hold, Cena did his best to fight it for as long as he could, but then he smiled and tapped out to end his 23-year run on the WWE main roster.

The match ending led to fans booing WWE’s Chief Content Officer and booker, Triple H, when they saw him. The fans wanted Cena to win. Others online said that Cena losing was fine, but tapping out didn’t make sense for his character.

Based on Cena’s own comments about the match, it seems as if most of what happened in his final match was his idea, and he wanted to put Gunther over the way that he did.

JR Thinks John Cena Losing Was The Right Call

Jim Ross is a WWE Hall of Famer who has worked for AEW for the last 6 years, so he hasn’t been involved in the end of Cena’s career. However, JR was there at the beginning as the head of WWE Talent Relations when Cena was signed in 2000.

While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross explained why he liked the Cena-Gunther match ending.
